Email: vogelstrausskluft@namibiabookings.com Vogelstrausskluft Country Lodge overlooks on ancient dry riverbed with spectacular sunsets in this arid and interesting part of Southern Namibia alongside the upper part of the Fish River Canyon. The lodge is built on the rise of a small hill, overlooking an ancient river course which forms a grassy valley below. The design and layout of the lodge means you can enjoy spectacular sunsets each evening whilst relaxing on the deck with a refreshing drink in hand. When you arrive at Vogelstrausskluft Lodge and enter the main building, the first thing that strikes you is the dark wood, leather and beautiful stone tiles. Something a little different from other lodges in Namibia, and a nice feature are the huge rattan lights hanging from the thatched ceiling. The main building houses the reception, reading room with a small library and a large lounge set out with plush leather sofas and wicker armchairs. There is also an atmospheric bar with a frame made out of large tree logs and a natural wood bar top. In the main building there is also a restaurant, lounge, curio shop, patio and swimming pool is centrally situated and the thatch and stone finishing blends the infrastructure into the environs. A large mahogany deck extends out from the main building and offers great views of the valley and small waterhole below. Wrought iron tables and chairs with shady umbrellas are dotted across the deck and a small infinity pool stands at one end. We thought it was a shame that there are were no sun loungers to sit on in between swims but the views from the pool more than made up for it! Nature drives to the edge of the Fishriver Escarpment may bring
Kudu, Oryx, Springbok, Ostrich, Zebra and Giraffe into the lens
of the nature lover. Apart from the 24 twin bedded en-suite rooms,
we also offer walks, quad biking, stargazing, Scenic Sights and
exclusive accommodation in our planned luxury Bush camp down in
the Fishriver Canyon. Vogelstrausskluft Country Lodge Accommodation The air-conditioned rooms are spacious and uncluttered. Each standard room has twin beds and a sitting area with leather sofas and an ottoman. The suites are a bit larger and fitted with one single and one double bed. Just as in the main building, dark wood and leather dominates the décor – the feel is reminiscent of a gentleman's club or smoking room. Sliding doors open out onto a small private patio with directors chairs from which you can enjoy views of the valley below. The rooms are all en suite and the bathrooms include a shower and separate corner bath. Laundry is available at an extra charge. Features of Vogelstrausskluft Country Lodge Dining at Vogelstrausskluft Lodge Lunch usually takes the form of a picnic whilst on various activities. However there is a light selection offered at the lodge for those that stay on a more relaxed holiday. Dinner is normally served as a buffet between 7 and 9pm. But if there are only a few people booked at the lodge this might take the form of a set menu. There is usually a choice of two dishes for starters and the main followed by a desert. On our last visit we tried a butternut and feta cheese bake, followed by a main of pork with apple sauce and served with roast potatoes & vegetables. The meal was rounded off with a chocolate & berry mousse. We thoroughly enjoyed all of it. Child Policy Accepted payment: Visa and MasterCard are accepted forms of payment. Some ideas of what to do at Vogelstrausskluft Country Lodge Activities at Vogelstrausskluft Lodge A variety of activities are offered here. Morning and afternoon nature drives lasting a couple of hours give you an idea of the immediate terrain and the scattered desert wildlife that might be seen here. It is also possible to join a full day 4WD excursion through over canyon plains and down into the canyon's depths. This is a fairly long and hard drive and involves descending a very bumpy route into the canyon to have a picnic lunch by the permanent rock pools along the Fish River, but various stops are made en route to visit several view points, breaking the journey. Guided walks in and around the lodge are also offered whilst longer 2 or 3 night camping packages in the Fish River Canyon are available for the more serious walkers. Directions |
