Island View Lodge is situated in a sheltered backwater overlooking
Kalimbeza Island, the perfect place to capture the spirit of the
Caprivi with it's natural unspoilt beauty, magnificent sunsets and
spectacular riverine scenery.
Island View Lodge is approximately 30 km east of Katima Mulilo,
with an easy-to-travel road.
Accommdoation:
Accommodation at the Lodge is in comfortable, rustic thatched roofed
bungalows each with it's own self catering kitchen and freezing
facilities. Bungalows have 24hr 220v electricity, plug points and
overhead fans. All units are serviced daily. Visitors have a choice
of bed&breakfast, full board, semi full board or self catering.
Camping
The campsite overlooks a wide expanse of river and consist of 24
campsites which can accommodate a minimum of 2 and a maximum of
8 people per campsite.
Terminalia, Natal Mahogany and Acacia trees offer campers a shady
canopy under which to erect their tents. Barbecues are provided
at each campsite and electric plug points are available at a nominal
fee. Ladies and Gents ablution facilities with hot water and a communal
kitchen are in close proximity to the campsite
Catering
Visitors who do not wish to do their own cooking can enjoy a hearty
home cooked meal served around the fire at our dining lapa. We also
provide breakfast, lunch and lunch-packs on request. Bar Relax with
a refreshing drink at the "Way-Inn" Bar, where anglers
meet to discuss the day's events. They say more fish are lost in
this popular venue than in the Zambezi River! Darts and Pool are
popular activities enjoyed by guests. The Way-inn stocks a variety
of wine, beers, spirits and cool drinks.TelevisionFor visitors who
wish to keep abreast with events in the "other world"
or for the fanatical sporting fans, DSTV is available in the lounge.Swimming
PoolThe Swimming Pool is ideally situated near large shady indigenous
trees and green lawns which offer visitors the perfect locality
to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of the area.
Angling
Island View Lodge is well known for the trophy size Tigerfish and
various bream species which are caught by conventional fishing methods
as well as on fly.
Tigerfish angling can be enjoyed throughout the year and Bream angling
from late May to the end of December.
Island View is host to the International Zambezi Classic Open
angling challenge and has been in 2008 and 2009 as well - this is
the single biggest angling competition in Southern Central Africa.
Boating & River Guides
Our well maintained fleet of boats can be hired on an hourly or
a half-day or full day basis. All boats are hired with an experienced
professional guide, which will assist and advise on the best angling
method, bait selection and locations to fish. Experience the thrill
of angling at renowned spots such as False Mwandi, Tiger Alley,
Grey Banks, Golden Pond and JoJo's.
The Tackle Box
A large selection of lures, spinners, spoons sinkers and fishing
line, suitable for landing any of the many angling species, is available
for purchase at the tackle shop. Earthworms can be purchased at
the Lodge.
Birding
The diverse ecology of North East Caprivi region, consisting of
vast floodplains, riverine vegetation, grasslands & savannah
woodlands, is host to a large variety of birdlife which are endemic
to these habitats. Birding enthusiasts visiting Island View Lodge
can expect to see a large number of species in the immediate vicinity
of the lodge, such as the ever noisy Hartlaub Babblers, Schalows
Turaco (Lourie), White-browed Robin Chat (Heuglin's Robbin) as well
as Swamp and Tropical Bou-Bous.
Yellow Fronted Tinker Barbets, White-fronted Bee-Eaters and a variety
of Shrikes, Bul-Buls and Sunbirds, including the rare Shelley's
Sunbird, are commonly found in the huge trees at the Lodge.
A boat cruise on the river offers visitors a unique close-up experience
of viewing numerous Waterfowl, Herons, Storks, Plovers, Lapwings,
Coucals, Red & Blackwinged Pratincoles, African Skimmers, and
of course the magnificent African Fish Eagle which inhabit this
water wonderland.
The region offers birders and incredible birding paradise with
as many as 445 species to be seen. Our resident birding guides will
assist in making your Ilsand View Lodge birding experience a memorable
one!
The Victoria Falls and Chobe Game ReserveIn close proximity to
three other countries, day or overnight excursions can be arranged
to Chobe Game Reserve, Victoria Falls and Livingstone.
Guests can partake in any of the many activities on offer at these
