In February 1998, Erongo Plateau Camp was build. Oliver and Conny Kayser, owners of the camping site, built the camping site on their parent’s farm, Frederik and Rita van Alphen (Farm Eileen). With their experience in camping Conny & Oliver together with Israel Mbudu, constructed the camping site in such a way that makes it environmentally friendly.

The camping ground is small and secluded, the perfect place to relax and de-stress. Visits should sooth the soul and relax the mind. Great care has been taken to ensure that our sites provide for privacy.

Erongo Plateau Camp is situated in the heart of the majestic Erongo mountain range near Omaruru. This is the gate to Damaraland, where you will find the famous desert elephants or ancient Himba tribe in Kaokoveld. It is also within comfortable travelling distance to Swakopmund, Hentiesbay, Twyfelfontein, Etosha or even the capital city Windhoek.

Accommodation and Facilities
The camping site has spotlessly clean showers (hot & cold water) and toilets. You can buy wood at the camp and there are fireplaces, shade netting and every site has its own water tap. We have no power supply, no swimming pool and no shop and therefore bringing your own camping equipment and food is a must. In Omaruru, 35km from the campsite, you can get all your fresh groceries at the Omaruru Spar.

Israel Mbudu is the gentleman managing and maintaining the camping site. His good service, neatness and friendly appearance gives him a good reputation.

Pets are most welcome at Erongo Plateau Camp. Dogs may not roam around on their own and have to stay with you or walk on a leash.

Activities
For the more adventurous, there are hiking trails situated in the mountains, ask Israel where the walking trail starts. Stay on the walking trails and never walk alone. If you want to walk alone, ask Israel that he may keep an eye out for your return. This area is best known for its mountain zebra. You can also see Oryx, Kudu, Steenbok, Damara Dik-dik, Hedgehog etc. Listen to the sounds of hyena, jackal, leopard or even owls at night.

You can visit the bushman paintings farm or the Living Museum of the SAN People, which is situated on the neighbouring farm. More details can be found at the camping site.

Just sit back and relax in your camping chair and watch the waterhole that has been built on the lower plateau to the camping sites. This waterhole was built in August 2009 and wildlife has adapted to this solar light at night.

Where is Erongo Plateau

From the C33 coming from Karibib on your way to Omaruru, you turn left into the D2315. After 10km on the D2315 you enter a gate to the “Erongo Mountain Conservancy”. Guards will write down your car’s registration number. (Please note this is not a police roadblock! This gate only controls wildlife. No entry fee payable!). After a further 14km, you will get the signboard that states “EILEEN”. Turn left and after 9km you will find the left entrance gate of Farm Eileen, turn left again.
From here on please drive slowly for the next 3km, the campsite will be on your right.
