Skeleton Coast runs along the Namibian coastline wih the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the harsh hot rock desert area of Damaraland and the Kaokoveld on the other. Places to stay along the Skeleton Coast are Henties Bay, Jakkalsputz, Terrace Bay, Torra Bay and beach camping at Mile 14, mile 72 and mile 108. Accomodation along Skeleton coast is quite limited but the beauty of the landscape and the fantastic fishing keep people going back.

Skeleton Coast takes its name from the skeletons of many ships that through the years have come to grief on the shallow rocky and sandy coast that is often enshrouded in a fog caused by the cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean meeting the heat of the Desert. Poor shipwrecked sailors who made it to shore then faced one of the worlds most inhospitable terrains with no settlements for hundreds of kilometres in any direction.

Now a road made of salt runs north from Swakopmund allowing easy access to this beautiful desolate stretch of Skeleton coastline.
Excellent for fishing and inhabited by seals.
